Welcome to the OneZoom tree of life explorer...

The Tree of Life shows how all life on Earth is related. In our interactive tree of life you can explore the relationships between 2,228,001 species and wonder at 105,498 images on a single zoomable page. Each leaf represents a different species, and the branches illustrate how these many species evolved from common ancestors over billions of years. Explore the relationships between species, learn about their common ancestors, or embark on a guided tour around the tree. Zoom around the tree to be amazed by the diversity of life on Earth.

We are delighted to announce that OneZoom has received the generous support of £18,000 from the Turner-Kirk Trust. The grant titled "Fractal illustrations of timescale in the evolution of all life on earth" will focus on experimental work into improved visualisations for the tree of life. "The Turner Kirk Trust is very pleased to be able to support the OneZoom project. This innovative and compelling visualisation of the complexity, depth and beauty of the tree of life is a fabulous resource to help everyone understand the origins of the natural world around us" Dr. Ewan Kirk. The Turner-Kirk trust is now acknowledged as a sponsor on several leaves of our tree of life which relate to the trust's other activities in the field of biodiversity and conservation.
